Melissa Bees

My name is Melissa Bees and I am currently a Junior studying Communication at the University of Maryland. I am working on this blog for part of my Digital Media and Democracy course. The reason why I care about the issue of stricter gun control is because I know several people who have been in mass shootings. Two of my uncles worked at the Navy Yard on the day of the 2013 mass shooting, where twelve innocent lives were lost. I have also been involved with honoring survivors from the Orlando night club shooting, which took place earlier this year.
Radhika Desai
Hi! My name is Radhika Desai, I’m studying Communications at UMCP at Shady Grove! I am a part of this blog for the Digital Media and Demoracy class. I believe enforcing stricter gun laws because, growing up in Salinas, California I saw and heard about gun violence almost every day, seeing innocent people lose their lives was both frightening and sad. Gun violence has increased dramatically, causing too many deaths. with more restrictions and inspections we could save more lives.
Abi Croll
Hi! My name is Abi Croll, and I am currently a Junior studying Communication at the University of Maryland. I will be working on this blog for my Digital Media and Democracy class. There have been too many mass shootings in my lifetime. From the Virginia Tech shooting in 2007, to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012, to the shooting to the shooting at Pulse Night Club in Orlando just this year; there are so many innocent lives that have been taken and so many families that have been impacted by gun violence. My heart really goes out to them. In this blog, we will be discussing several ways that we believe gun control can be achieved to lower the number of these devastating massacres that have been occurring in our country.
Travis Alexander
Hello! My name is Travis Hucek and I am currently a senior student studying Communication at the University of Maryland. Like my fellow colleagues, I too am working on this blog for part of my Digital Media and Democracy course. The reason why I care about the issue of stricter control is because I believe in the foundation that all people are b
orn with “unalienable rights,” rights which are core to the United States Declaration of Independence. The pattern of events involving horrific gun violence within the past decade in the U.S. is a fact that gun control laws are due for reform in order to preserve any persons right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
